Amazing soap for clearing acne & blemish prone skin
I’ve been using this soap for almost 2 years now and when I recently ran out of it on an extensive trip to Europe my skin instantly had break outs and blemishes again. It only took a few days of reapplying this wonderful soap to make my skin feel soft, clear and brightened again. I’m so glad I’ve found this soap!!
Great after workouts and as 2nd part of a double cleanse
I have light perioral dermatitis (PD) and this soap was recommended—but it can be drying, as many have noted–even for me with combo to oily skin! Here’s what I have figured out. I keep it in the shower and use after working out or running (really helps with running breakouts!!) Also, its great as the second step of a double cleansing routine when first using a oil cleanser, as it is CANNOT be used to remove eye makeup (but the oil cleanser does that beautifully). You will likely need moisturizer if you are very sensitive. If you have PD, get a filter for your water (like a shower filter). Hope this helps!
After developing perioral dermatitis back in the fall, (and as someone who’s struggled with nickel dermatitis and eczema on my face for years) this was the only thing that successfuly worked. I stumbled across a blog who mentioned this for perioral symptoms specifically, and within three days of using 1x a night before bed (and with plenty of moisturizer), it finally gave me relief. This bar has generously lasted me for 2 months. Highly recommend.
Calmed my skin overnight
I was having a really bad breakout around my mouth and walked into Follain in Beacon Hill for help. The knowledgeable salesperson directed me right to this soap, as its made specifically for people having similar issues. I went home and immediately washed with it and already started to feel relief. I currently use this at night, with a less drying wash in the morning. Overall, love it and am happy to have it as part of my routine!
I tried this to help with hormonal breakouts. I think it’s helping but can be drying. It last an amazingly long time and love it comes in recyclable package. I will try one of their gentler soaps and rotate them.
Not What I Was Hoping For
I’ve been using this face soap along with the spotless blemish oil for about a month. While I like how clean my face feels, and the scents of the products, it has not helped my hormonal acne (I am 42 years old). If anything, it has gotten worse which tells me my last product, while far from perfect, was working better. Frustrating . . . . I will keep researching products for the right fit.
I have normal skin and this black clay facial soap just sucks all the moisture out of my skin. I find their body soaps also too drying. They do make a good body oils and body mousse though. I would at least try a sample of this before investing $24.
I had acne on my shoulder and in my back during my second pregnancy and this soap helped a lot.
Little bumps all over
Not sure if this was a reaction or pimples but I used this for a week and got little bumps all over my face. As soon as I stopped they slowly disappeared. Didn’t agree with my skin.
I bought this to help with the occasional red spots on my chin from hormonal fluctuations, as nothing really seems to do the trick. They jury’s still out of if this helps. For a regular face wash, it’s pretty good. It will pretty much remove makeup and, though I was warned it’s drying, I haven’t had an issue.
This is a complete game changer in my face wash routine. I’m a lover of bar soap but generally never used it for my face. The bar lasts a long time and provides so much moisture with each wash. Love Love Love
Great Cleaning Option!
I was really surprised by this little bar of soap, it leaves my skin SO clean feeling. After a day of wearing makeup, i love to use it to make sure i’m washing away all the dirt. I have rosacea and minor breakouts and I’ve noticed this soap really keeps my skin inline with limited breakouts and reduced redness. I only use the soap once a day, i think any more would be too drying for my skin type.
I liked this at first. I noticed an immediate difference in breakouts and redness. After about a week my skin was unbearably dry, though, so I had to discontinue. Unfortunately not worth the money for me.
Takes a little time for skin to adjust...
For the first week I really struggled with dryness after using the bar. My skin felt tight and I had some breakouts. However, week 2 my skin was much happier. The bar lathers really well, removes makeup and rinses clean. I have extremely dry skin, this may be too drying in the cold weather. But overall, this is a great everyday cleansing bar!
Caused a little bit of irritation
This bar leaves my skin feeling squeaky clean without feeling stripped. I have dry, rough skin with a touch of perioral dermatitis. Unfortunately, it seemed to make my PD worse :/ After using it for a few days I had little red bumps on my cheeks that went away right after stopping this bar. I’m going to give it another go when my skin calms down, but when it’s irritated, it seemed to make it worse. It felt really nice on my skin so I hope it works out!
A little drying
This was a little dry for my combination skin. It helped a little with my cystic acne, but that marginal benefit was outweighed by the dry, flaking skin around my nose and mouth. Pass for me but probably great for oilier skin
My #1 product
This is the backbone of my care routine. My combination skin feels refreshed and clean after using this as my cleanser once a day.
I never considered solid facial cleanser before but I’m so glad I found this. Not only is the package easily recyclable, but the product lasts a really long time too. I bought this specifically because it had a note that it helps with perioral dermatitis, which I tend to get in the winter. Would definitely purchase again!
Deep cleaning yet still calming
I purchased a bar of the Black Clay soap after meeting Dr. Sarah Villafranco at an in-store event. I was so moved by her mission and so impressed by her ingredients, I had to give it a try. I found this to be both deep cleaning and calming, which can be rare find. My husband is hooked- he loves the deep clean and the foaminess- great for a recent clean beauty convert. I use this as my evening cleanse after I remove my make up and before I tone/moisturize. This bar may be a bit drying for some, but I have found my sensitive/combination skin really loves it.
Gave this to my BF as a nice gift and he used it twice resulting in red blotchy skin on his face both times. It was clearly an allergy to something in this soap. Too bad!
Sorry to hear this caused a reaction on your boyfriend! He may need something really gentle. The Farmaesthetics Fine Herbal Cleanser is a great option!
It’s a really great product overall. I got a sample from the Follain store at Union Market and I’ve been using it for the past two weeks. I have sensitive skin with acne breakouts and dark spots. I can say that it definitely has calmed my skin down along with other natural products that I use in my skincare regimen. I also used this with aloe vera gel as my toner, osea blemish balm, and the indie lee clearing mask.
i definitely say give it a go!
